Trevor Danvers (File Notes): A Whole New World

Trevor Danvers (File Notes): A Whole New World

Captain Trevor Danvers departed the office of his superior Director Thorne. He moved briskly to his own office, examining the changes to her diary as he went. It would be easy to adjust the appointments but he was frustrated that he had missed her interest in Intake Day. "Stupid. Stupid" he cursed his oversight.

He paused mid stride, turned to attention and saluted. "Sir!" barked the Captain. The passing Senior Operative glanced briefly at him. "Hey" was all the Senior Operative stated as he moved on without pause.

AEGIS Outreach continued to demonstrate to Trevor that it's similarity to the armed forces was superficial at best. Outreach certainly had protocol, regulation and discipline but it was sometimes overlooked and sometimes not. Trevor was having trouble navigating these differences. He had been assigned to AEGIS Outreach for two weeks and he was still finding numerous nuances every day. It was almost overwhelming. At least he had his work to focus on.

Reaching his office Trevor gratefully opened the door before pausing in horror. Upon his desk, literally on his desk protector, sat a blue furred Moon Monkey. It was riffling through his pen holder while idly gnawing a previously perfect pencil.

There were regulations on interactions with Moon Monkeys. Many regulations. While they may appear to simply be blue versions of a normal spider monkey, the Moon Monkey species was very different indeed. They were highly intelligent, vaguely telepathic and extremely skilled teleporters. Trevor recalled that the Spire where he worked had originally taken several shipments of Moon Monkey's from Farside City on the Moon but matters quickly got out of hand. Rather than being retained as an operational resource (akin the military dogs, dolphins and other animals) some the Moon Monkeys were covertly adopted as pets. In turn some of the pets escaped and became feral. Now the Spire had, to Trevor's view at least, become overrun with Moon Monkeys: military, domestic and feral.

The Monkey looked up at him and barred it's fangs. Could they sense fear? They were vaguely telepathic Trevor reminded himself. "Of course they can sense fear."

Trevor looked for the collar worn by the military breed. The monkey on his desk wore none. This didn't bode well. His phone was on the desk next to the monkey so he couldn't use it to call a Handler. Personal Cell Phones were a security risk in the workplace. Trevor had safely stowed it in his locker (although he noted very few other personnel did).

"Nice monkey," Trevor said in what he hoped was his calmest voice. How was he to entice the creature away? Regulations were very clear: Do not feed the Moon Monkeys. The reason for the regulation was that several people who attempted to feed the creatures in the past were kidnapped by them.

Quietly the Captain withdrew from the room and closed the door. Upon completing the task he leaned heavily against the frame and wondered how long it would take for the creature to become bored and depart.

As his mind wandered a large square jawed woman approached him. She wore the uniform of an Agent rather than an Operative which designated her as a field work member of staff.

"Excuse me," she politely asked without preamble. "Have you seen a Moon Monkey? About this big." She spread her hands. "Duck egg blue with a nicked left ear?"

Captain Danvers jerked his thumb towards the door behind him.

"Oh thanks!" she brightly noted and without hesitation disappeared into the office of Captain Danvers.

Through the closed door he could hear a hiss from the monkey which was met with admonishment. "Naughty Bubbles. Hush. Hush!"

The hissing ceased and the woman's voice continued. "Put down the pencil. Put it down. Here's your collar. Put it back on."

There was a pause "Good Bubbles. Now... UP!"

Presently the office door opened and the Agent exited. The Moon Monkey was perched on her shoulder.

The Agent tuned to Trevor. "Thanks for taking care of Bubbles. I hope she wasn't any trouble. If she damaged anything let me know. Bye."

Trevor was about the point out that he didn't know who the agent was but "Bubbles" barred it fangs at him and hissed again as she left. He remained silent.

And the Agent and the monkey were gone.

Trevor wasn't sure he would ever get used to AEGIS Outreach.

Notebook of Duncan Summers: Intake Day

Notebook of Duncan Summers: Intake Day Originally Published by Jason Cochrane on Mar 25, 2016 at 05:03 AM There was a timid knock at the door. Duncan Summers, Headmaster of the Claremont Academy spun from his perch by the window and fixed the intruder with a steely glare. The source of the knock, a young man dressed in the Academy Uniform of blue and gold fled in terror. "Mmmmmm...." growled the Headmaster who returned to his position of gazing out the window into the distance. "Headmaster," a vaguely feminine, vaguely robotic voice intoned, "must you terrorise the students?" There was a faint staccato as metal heels walked across the floor towards the Headmaster. The presence was acknowledged with another growl. "Navimatrix. What do you want?" "My," intoned the humanoid robot. "Aren't you in a foul mood today. I came to check on you." "No need. I'm fine." Duncan had not even turned away from th...

A New Light

The house was a small two brick affair on a faux Tudor Style. While many of its kind bore white plaster and dark support beams, this house was brick topped with slate. The walls were tall and moss covered. The windows bore braces dividing each into a collection of smaller squares. Around the house was the lush and rambling grounds of the Claremont Academy. Ancient native trees stood alongside aged specimens from England. The grounds rolled and twisted. Each curve and divot revealed a different feature of the grounds. The Japanese Zen Garden. The sports fields. The tennis yards. The Workshop. And among these was the Carriage House in faux Tudor style. The house had many names over the years: the Carriage House, the Gate House, the Servant's Quarters, the Groundskeeper's Lodge and many others. In recent years it had been given over various members of the academic staff of the Academy. The current occupants of the house had been in residence for little over a year. Their tenur...

Ordway Observatory: The Facility Layout and Surrounds

Ordway Observatory: The Facility Layout and Surrounds Originally Published by Jason Cochrane on Oct 12, 2016 at 07:12 AM The Ordway Observatory (OO) once stood as a lonely five story landmark but suburbia has grown around it. The OO finds itself on a crossroads with shops and local commerce on all bar the western side of the property. The OO is bordered by a small car park to the east and south and a set of shops to the north. Primary vehicle entry to the OO is by the eastern car park entrance (with easy access to the workshop). As the only local five story structure it is the tallest building in the neighbourhood. All the remains of the OO’s once generous grounds is a tree dappled park backing onto the west side of the Observatory. Wildey Park is popular with locals and visitors alike and provides a steady source of patronage for the Wicked Witch Café. Wildey Park features a basketball court which, by happy coincidence, can just accommodate an AEGIS VTOL Interceptor. While this ...
