History
Hailing from Boston the vivacious Cara Avonmora spent 4 years at the Claremont Academy (see "Next Gen" cira 2002-2006) after her water manipulation powers spectacularly manifested throwing the family into disarray. Cara's policeman father Patrick, ever the patriarch, arranged for boarding school until things died down. The exact circumstances leading to Cara joining Claremont has not been revealed.
Once at Claremont Cara quickly fell in with the band of friends who became the 2001 - 2006 line up of "Next Gen". Shortly after commencing at Claremont she also began an awkward but passionate relationship with Adrian Hooper (Extent). This relationship lasted until the pair graduated in 2006 but ended in 2007 during a gap year trip to Hawaii for the pair (see below).
Cara presents as small lithe woman with blue eyes and incredibly wild untamable flaming red hair. Her personality has changed over time from a cautious and frightened outsider to a strong willed integral team member.
Cara has formidable water manipulation powers and is one of the most powerful water manipulators on Earth Prime. During her tenure with Next Gen she adopted the code name "Eddy" after the fluid dynamic effect. She has learnt a wide range of applications of her powers from creating water constructs and shields, controlling water flow to act as remote arms and, most disturbingly, the ability to control water within humans and other heavily hydrated life.
Cara first discovered her ability to control the water in other people during a visit to the Goodman Building, home to the Atom Family. A Claremont field trip to the Zero Zone was delayed when supervillians attacked. Instinctively Cara assumed control over one of the villain's muscles. While initially terrified by his unexpected power Cara later experimented with achieving greater control. She quickly discovered she could not only control the water but remove it: desiccating the target.
After a series of Next Gen trauma's Cara became aware of a number of her other dimensional doppelgangers. Many of these alternate Cara's had a much darker outlook to life than her own. A common thread was their use of the code name "Crimson" for the blood control they revelled in.
Faced with ever escalating threats and conflict Cara began to experiment more and more with achieving fine control over her powers such as muscle control and desiccation. In doing so she started developing an indifference and callousness for others. Despite this she maintained her devotion to Adrian Hooper and actively concealed her activities from him - effectively adopting a double life.
Ultimately Cara's experiments crossed a line and she secretly adopted the identity of "Crimson Tide". While holidaying in Hawaii Adrian discovered the extent of Cara's mastery of water within others and was horrified. The pair fought and Adrian broke off their engagement. Cara spiralled out of control, discarded the code name Eddy and fully embraced the Crimson Tide persona.
Ultimately Extent was able to bring Crimson Tide to justice but not until she had killed a number of Adrian's family including his cousin the teleporter Pika. Both Adrian and Cara were heartbroken at the ending of their relationship and have become bitter towards each other for the choices made and the perceived lack of devotion to the other.
Crimson Tide has bedevilled many heroes since 2007 but takes particular delight in tormenting Extent. While Extent has demonstrated he is unaffected by her water based muscle control (functionally mind control) and desiccation powers, his family and friends are not so lucky.
Adrian's current partner Tara Breen (Maelstrom), also a water manipulator, has proven to be a very sore point for Cara. The similarity in their respective first names, physical appearance and power sets have infuriated Cara towards the couple.
Despite the very different application of their respective masteries over water (and resulting apparent powers), Crimson Tide and Maelstorm are so evenly matched that one rarely prevails over the other without outside assistance. This further angers Crimson who rightly considers herself to be one of the strongest water manipulators alive and she considers Maelstrom to be an unworthy challenger stealing Cara's title, claim to fame, powers, name and even her former lover Extent - in essence living the life that Cara believes should by right have been hers.
Crimson is unaware of the true background of Maelstrom but suspects Ms Breen is not who she claims to be.
Crimson Tide has many enemies including virtually all water based heroes such as Sea King and Siren. Crimson Tide was last seen over a year ago battling Siren of the Freedom League. The current whereabouts of Crimson Tide are unknown.
Power Set
Cara Avonmora is a superman able to manipulate and control of liquids. She is able to create watery constructs able to manipulate other objects including throwing objects. Originally she required an external water source but has learnt how to extra water from the environment and organic life (her dessication field). one her her first :"horrific" powers was to achieve muscle control over another human by moving the water in the body as she desires. She cannot control her victim's mind or powers and such control is visible due to it's imprecise and jerky animation.
* Turning "Harm" into "Ray of Harm" represents experience beyond typical superhumans
Associates
As Eddy, Cara was a valued member of Next Gen. Through her relationship with Adrian Hooper she also came into regular contact with the Pantheon. While Cara has travelled interdimensionally via the dimensional cube used by Adrian, she was not recruited into the Ark of Worlds but turned to a criminal lifestyle instead. Cara is mostly a loner but often recruits a temporary ally. Invariably things sour.
